Confessions of a GeekGirl
It's all very surreal to me, how I'm hooked up to ... everything ... no matter where I go. And while it's nice that I have the world at my fingertips, I don't particularly like the thought that I'm never out of reach.
But I am constantly amazed at how far things have come in my lifetime. I'm 25. Think about it ... CDs, DVDs, laptops, cell phones, gigabytes, Nintendo, RFIDs, Palm Pilots, TiVo, the Internet as we know it, Jolt Cola, the Mars Rover, LASIK, movies made entirely by computer, mp3s, e-mail, eBay, digital cameras, techno, lathroscopic surgery, etc.
I know there's a lot of bad stuff in the world today, but all things considered, I think it's a great time to be alive. What else do you think is going to change or be accomplished in our lifetime? Will it resemble The Jetsons or 1984? Something to think about while I play KH and ponder why Sora looks so goshdarn feminine. Weird.
P.S. Where do we stand regarding beads?

Beads? What beads? ;-) Okay, I passed a bead store, but didn't actually go in. I need a little more time to think about it (think about what to get and from where, not whether or not I'm doing it).
I only recently came to understand axactly HOW microwave ovens work (beyond the obvious "microwaves hit to food") so yeah, technology amazes me every day.
the idealist in me WANTS the jetsons to happen. But the idealist in me isnt all that prominent. It will probably be more like 1984 considering the current political state of the US and the direction its heading in (the big brother nanny), all of which bother the crap out of me.
Also, you can be out of reach whenever you want. Just turn off everything, or dont answer it. I know i dont answer everything during non-critical times.
But the option is there to always be in touch, which is nice.
The option to be in touch is what makes todays life so much different. Before, it was wait until someone reached a landline, or wait for fedex or the postal service, or settle for crappy fax quality. Now, if its an emergency, or something critical, that person isnt out of touch. Phone, email, digital transfer of images. Information. I am an information hound. I hate being in the position where i dont know something. Be it in research or social settings, it maybe being a perfectionist towards knowing everything about a chemistry i am using, or whats called a gossip. Both have their uses. Its nice knowing what someone is thinking or what they are doing, it means i can plan accordingly. (and know i will be right, which, after all is the most important thing. Make the desicions be right the first time around)
I think if I didn't have my computer to be "in touch all the time" I'd go nuts here in Florida.
